Provcheck: An Offline C2PA Watermarking Node Lands in ComfyUI
ยท RenderBob team
Provcheck v1.4.0 brings offline C2PA signing into ComfyUI. Neural watermarks and Content Credentials become a pipeline step, not a post-process to remember.

Two September posts ago on this blog, we covered the EU AI Act's Article 50 provenance requirements and the fact that routine pipeline operations quietly strip the watermarks regulations expect to survive. This week the tooling caught up. Provcheck v1.4.0 ships an offline C2PA node for ComfyUI: neural watermarks for image and audio, plus optional Content Credentials bound to a Bluesky handle, without the content leaving the graph.
Provenance signals only help if they are applied and they survive the pipeline's own processing. A node that watermarks and optionally signs at the point of generation, inside the same graph doing the rendering, means provenance is a property of the pipeline rather than a manual compliance task bolted onto the end.
Offline signing means the credential can be applied without a round-trip to an external service. That matters for a studio that wants provenance without adding a network dependency, a latency cost, or a data-egress question to every render. Neural watermarking is the pixel- or waveform-embedded signal designed to survive re-encoding, resizing and format conversion better than metadata alone, the operations that strip a metadata-only approach. Binding credentials to a creator identity, the kit uses a Bluesky handle as one option, points toward the verifiable chain regulators and platforms are increasingly expecting: this came from this named source.
If provenance compliance is a live requirement, and for EU-facing work under Article 50 it now is, a signing node belongs inside the standard pipeline. Wire it into the same governed, reproducible workflow stages this blog keeps returning to: pin the node's version like any other component, apply it across every deliverable that needs it, and keep an audit trail of what was signed and when. Provcheck is an independent project, not a Comfy Org release. Check licensing, security posture and current maintenance before it touches client work.
